The very first Science Supplements products were the brainchild of Dr David Marlin, a scientist with 25 years’ experience in the horse industry who has worked with the FEI, IOC and as a consultant to the British Equestrian Teams since 1994.
Author of books and over 200 scientific papers Dr Marlin developed these products to fulfil the need of his professional clients for quality supplements, containing high grade, clinically proven ingredients that work.
From 2003 – 2012 the range of supplements were only available to professional riders, trainers, producers, yards and studs in racing, polo, endurance, showjumping, eventing and dressage, plus to the wider equestrian community in the United States in partnership with Purina Animal Nutrition. 2014 saw the launch of the products in the UK and futher export to other parts of the world.
Since then we have racked up a list of accolades:
2014 - Winner of the International Innovation Award for our Gut Balancer product

Science Supplements ethos is to only produce products with demonstrated efficacy that address real problems and which have been proven to work through laboratory, clinical and field trials. Equally important to us are safety, quality, palatability and consistency. We are also able to provide an unrivalled level of support on our product range because we believe in giving the right advice, for the right reasons, to get the best results for your horse, supported by respected industry scientists, veterinary practitioners and experts in equine exercise, physiology and nutrition.
All of our products contain key ingredients that are clinically and scientifically proven to have benefits to performance, health and wellbeing. Our products do not contain unnecessary fillers and we only use high grade, premium ingredients meaning your horse get the best possible nutritional support.
We believe in honesty, integrity and our range of products have been developed based on fact, not fiction.
What we know and learn about our horses is ever changing and the more we understand through new innovations and studies, the better we can provide for them.
We use this technology across our entire range. For example, electrolyte uptake is greatest via the small intestine, therefore our Complete Electrolyte supplement uses MicroBead TM Technology: a unique delivery system, that achieves optimal uptake and reduces gastric irritation that may be caused by normal electrolytes dissolving in the stomach.
Clinical & Scientific Trials
Independent data takes the guesswork out of choosing which supplement to buy. At the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) congress in 2013, the findings of the trials undertaken on FlexAbility were accepted and presented to the congress by Dr Rachel Murray, an internationally recognised equine orthopaedic clinician and researcher.
“Although supplements are frequently given to many horses, as a veterinary surgeon and scientist, I have often been frustrated by the lack of evidence and science behind the claims being made about how various supplements work. There is currently little industry requirement for scientific proof about supplements, and little incentive to do so because scientific proof is expensive to achieve! So I have been impressed that Science Supplements are investing in scientific investigation of how their supplements work in horses that are using them.”
What you see is what you get! Clear, simple, transparent labelling allows you to see how much of each ingredient goes into each product. The entire range is tested for prohibited substances under the BETA NOPS scheme and extra screening for peace of mind, such as testing for mycotoxins, and independent laboratory testing to confirm active ingredient levels are standard.
We manufacture to a strict code of feed safety. Our products are manufactured in our licensed premises using quality assured ingredients under strictly controlled production conditions and conforms to the requirements of EU and UK legislation governing the manufacture of animal feeding stuffs. We monitor for the presence of specified naturally occurring prohibited substances (NOPS) as required under the rules of racing and other affiliated competitions which are in line with BETA NOPS guidelines. Adherence to these guidelines ensures that the risk of occurrence of such substances is minimised.
Take the Science Supplements Challenge
Dr David Marlin:
“I formulated the range of products after many years of listening to my professional rider and trainer clients complaining about the lack of quality, efficacy and ingredients going into supplements. I firmly believe you will not find better products on the market and rather than take my word for it I encourage anyone to compare our active ingredient levels to any product you can find on the shelves today.”
